LED lighting have been more and more
popular in industrial and commercial places because of its energy saving, long
lifespan and high brightness. Many retail clients are shifting towards LED
lights over incandescent lights and fluorescent lamps. Actually, they want to
provide better decoration effect through LED lighting, improving the customer
shopping experience.
Compared with conventional lights, LED lighting has lots of advantages. As we know, many retail stores are open all day, almost more than 14 hours. They need continuous lighting, which consumes a lot of energy. In the other hand, retail stores usually have high ceilings, often 10-12 inch high or more. Hence, it becomes very difficult to replace the defective lights or maintain them properly, meanwhile, it also take more money in equipment and labor costs replacing lights. However, LED lights can solve this problem easily, they have a longer lifespan of more than 60000 hours with the high quality and energy saving, which can save more maintenance costs. Some of the LED fixtures like recessed lights, flush mounts do not require changing of any bulb, make LED lighting be installed in any place in the client stores. LED lighting is available for its color and size option. Different areas of a retail store can choose different types of LED lights in order to have the best visual effects. Moreover, LED lights don’t give off a buzzing sound, is flicker-free, and is instant-on, it provides a comfortable and hassle-free experience for customers.
Many people believe that there is
definitely a link between quality lighting and sales. High quality lighting
will not only make all products in the store more attractive, but also make the
customers more comfortable. Some studies said that quality lighting will create
a comfortable environment, which will make customers stay longer and shop more.
For example, some customers stop at the end-cap to browse merchandise, when the
lighting is on, 33.3% of customers will buy the products, but when the lighting
is off, only 14.3% of customers will do the same things. Moreover, the study also
proved that, 3.7% of passing mall pedestrians were attracted into the store
when the display illumination, but only 2.1% of them when the illumination was
off. We can draw a conclusion that high quality lighting will affect product
sales in a store.
However, some LED lighting for retail
clients also has many deficiencies. Many retail clients’ store is leasehold,
generally for less than 10 years. But LED lighting has a long lifespan, which
can last for several decades. Hence, this will waste a lot of LED lights
resources because of housing maturity. In addition, many manufacturers will provide
the long warranty, but many clients don’t trust the claim because there is no
guarantee to require manufacturers to honor this commitment. What’s more, there
is no proper standards in LED lighting market to convince the retail clients
that they can purchase the high quality lighting, only US has some regulation
for LED lighting, other countries have not. Some countries have started their
own verification methods, but its applicability is limited.
In summary, LED lighting will be the right
choice for retail clients, but there are many problems to be solved.
